I'm really enjoying this show so far. The set decoration and clothing is lavishly detailed and incredibly beautiful, and the class division and views "old money" families have of those with "new money" is also accurate. The acting is very good and the story is realistic. I haven't looked into everything to see if many of the events occurred but I probably will over time. I do know that the Astor's were real, as was Clara Barton, the founder of the American Red Cross. Apart from that it seems like many characters were based on real life people. So far I've learned that Peggy Smith was likely a combination of a few black women who made names writing for themselves during the 1800s and that from 1880-1884 thwre was a publication called the Globe. I'm definitely looking forward to the next episode and like seeing Mark Twain's "Gilded Age" depicted on screen 🙂
