A one star review of this incredible book describes contemporary America as organized as a hierarchy of competence where competence is roughly determined by free market forces. In other words meritocracy.
For meritocracy to work the playing field must be even. I suggest those with this perspective educate themselves on what we have learned about the generational effects of trauma on the brain. Exposure to traumatic events changes not only the brains circuitry and thus one's ability to learn and to function without illness, it also impacts the descendants of those who experienced the trauma as we have learned from studies done on the ancestors of Holocaust survivors.
