This is my first Sonic Racing game. I got it after being frustrated that Mario Kart didn't fix all the problems with having terrible item bagging.
This game punishes you more for drifting into the shoulder than getting hit by an item. This results in gameplay where your skill actually matters. It's also so much more fast paced and exciting to play. There's still item chaos but you can actually see the difference between when you race well and make a mistake.
