Movie Review: Bagheera
"Bagheera" brings together a talented star cast but, unfortunately, falls short of fully utilizing their abilities. While the movie shows promise at the start, it loses its way exaggerating it, overshadowed by familiar tropes and unnecessary plot complexities. Here’s a breakdown of what works and what doesn’t:
Pros
1. Strong Story Build-Up: The first half of the first half sets up the story with intrigue, drawing viewers in with the promise of a gritty narrative.
2. Standout Performances: Murli, Raghu, and Prakash deliver excellent performances, grounding their roles with depth and intensity.
Cons
1. Repetitive Use of Child Characters: Prashant Neel’s tendency to include children in exaggerated situations—such as kids chanting mantras in high-stress scenes—feels overdone, losing its impact after previous films like "Ugram," "KGF," and "Salaar."
2. Underutilized Actors: Skilled actors like Avinash, Achyut & Pramod Shetty are largely wasted in minor roles, which is a real disappointment given their talents.
3. Stereotypical Female Role: Like many other action films, the heroine is sidelined with a limited role, which adds little to the story.
4. Odd Character Hierarchy: Having an experienced actor like Pramod Shetty report to a young, fresh face feels miscast and out of place.
5. Unfocused Plot: The story’s direction is muddled, trying to tackle everything from organ trafficking to general crime. The film would have benefitted from a more streamlined focus.
6. Outdated Hero-Villain Exchanges: The cliched banter between the hero and villain feels like it’s pulled from the 90s, adding little to their characters or the plot.
7. Weak Dialogues for Key Characters: Although some characters have well-written lines, the hero, heroine, and villain often speak in vague, riddled phrases that lack flavour of a regular conversation.
8. Train Dilemma Mishandling: The film’s attempt to address the moral dilemma of sacrificing one life to save many falls flat.
Overall Impression
"Bagheera" makes a commendable attempt to introduce a vigilante hero, but its flaws prevent it from reaching its full potential. With more focus on the storyline, better dialogue, and an effective use of its cast, this could have been a much stronger film. As it stands, it’s an average watch that shows glimpses of potential without fully delivering on them.
