Ramzy Baroud, whose family home is Beit Daras, grew up in a refugee camp in the Gaza Strip. His parents were ethnically cleansed from Israel to Gaza in 1948. One of his books is My Father Was a Freedom Fighter. For several decades he has been chief editor of the Palestine Chronicle, an online newspaper. This book, The Last Earth: A Palestinian Story, is full of genuine first-person accounts by Palestinians of their personal history within the 'greater' history of the robbery of Palestine by the zionists, who were indispensably aided by Great Britain during their colonial ('Mandate') rule from 1918 until 1948. What more do you want?

Characters you have no reason to care about; a sensationaist sex scene for the sake of sensationalism; a confusing plot-line and jumbled chronology that's too clever by half; a rich-world/first world, navel-gazing set of problems; Michael with zero good reason to feel guilty; an ending - man to the rescue! - that I suppose irks sincere feminists; a bit of gratuitious violence on a rooftop; a girlfriend who's inexplicably unfased at the strange perfume she smells on Michael; meaningless, stiff facial expressions most of the time on Michael; Anna totally over-acting. The more I think about this film the worse it gets.

On Palestine and Israel, John Quigley's values and knowledge are unsurpassed. Reliable, erudite, legal, historical, and always in the service of justice for the Palestinians. He writes very well, and he writes short chapters, making his works a pleasure to read. But however that may be, they are... authoritative.
