“Let It Snow” is a perfect movie for any young adult who wants to spend their free time during this Winter season watching a relatable, hilarious, and romantic 2019 Netflix original.
This epic film contains a wonderful modern cast including; Isabela Merced, Kiernan Shipka, and Mitchell Hope while also having actress legend Joan Cusack sneak in some scenes as a weird woman addicted to tin foil.
The film is set during a huge winter storm on Christmas Eve in a midwestern town, where a group of high school students live. Before that day, each kid never really connected personally with one another but somehow due to the weather they all learned how to accept each other, and find true love within themselves or from their perfect partner.
The cast contains eight main characters and with the help of the wonderful director Luke Snellin, the audience can watch each one develop as a human from beginning to end.
The film shows the struggling relationship between best friends Angie (Kiernan Shipka) and Tobin (Mitchell Hope) who are having trouble deciding if what they have is more than friend material while with the help of Jp Lapierre (Mathew Noszka) who falls in love with Angie, Tobin starts acting differently mainly because he’s jealous.
Stunning Julie Reyes (Isabela Merced) doesn’t truly know what she wants in life but that all ends when she meets famous singer Stuart Bale (Shameik Moore), who shows her what being alive really means.
A magical love triangle and two friends who help one another, what more stunning stories can fit in this one and a half hour movie? Well, the fun doesn’t stop there because love is in the snow. Dorrie (Liv Hewson) is a smart, creative, and kind girl who’s gay.
Madly in love with popular miss wanna be desired Kerry (Anna Akana), she loses sight of what really matters in the world which is her relationship with best friend Addie (Odeya Rush).
This wonderful masterpiece hits a lot of issues that teens and young adults face daily in the real world while discussing them in a refreshing way. So many young people are going through life as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, so what better way to support them than by saying that it’s accepted in a movie made for their generation?
Dorrie isn’t just another character on a screen but is a voice for all the kids who have been told it’s not all right to be themselves. She learns to love, accept, and appreciate herself while gaining an understanding that she’s not alone in a world of missy moments.
The film doesn’t just contain great actors, a fantastic soundtrack and hilarious moments. It also has a full ninety minutes of beautiful settings of snowy nature, cozy houses, and the Waffle Town diner which is where the movie ends.
While watching the cast travel through town in the pure white snow, a desire for winter creeps in real fast. The scenes of Christmas colors, steaming hot cocoa, and sweatshirt weather resemble a perfect holiday season that all would love to live through.
Even though the film was made almost one year ago, so many topics discussed in it are still very relatable to people now. It’s also just a fun, positive, appropriate movie to watch under the warm covers on a cold snowy day.
The emotional, creative, and well-written romance in “Let It Snow” makes it highly recommended for all audiences.
