Excellent book. Jean Chen Ho is a fantastic author. This book was depressing, infuriating, yet somehow peaceful. Like life. Jean Chen Ho did an excellent job captivating the ups and downs of life. The mistakes we make. The lies we tell even to ourselves. And our attempts to find joy and peace in our lives. And how even with friends and families in our lives we can find ourselves completely alone. Letting time slip by, not talking to old friends and family for years at a time. Jean Chen Ho also captures the difficulties of dating outside our own race/ethnicity. Especially, with all of the blatant r@cism and f3tishization of (especially) Asian culture and people in American society. Speaking from experience, it's hard to bring someone from the outside into your culture, and then they make horrendous comments or "joke" about your culture/ people. It is especially heart-wrenching when it comes from someone you truly believe your in love with, and then upon separation, you find your furious at YOURSELF for letting them say such things. (Even though, all the anger should be directed towards them.) Because our cultures, our ethnicities is who we are. It is in our blood. In our souls. 10/10 I would recommend this book. Jean Chen Ho's writing style will keep you captivated for the entire ride.
