Do not be fooled by the negative reviews here; it's obvious they gave up halfway or just like the same tepid woke stuff in most modern/remade franchises nowadays. Or if it looks too indie/non-mainstream for them, the plot would go over their basic mindsets. I won't spoil too much, but this film is the definition of anti-woke. Now you know how it feels like to have an agenda in film that doesn't go your way. Others have beaten me to describing what made this film watchable, so I shall not rehash it. CW (since everyone needs one in 2024): this will make MGTOW or trigger hardline feminists.

If you like action or political drama set in the medieval/period era, this will be right up your alley. Awesome fight choreography, soundtrack bangs, the writing/dialogue cooks, the actors ate their roles. Main characters can't carry the film alone, so if the minor characters are memorable, that indicates a good show. Some review sites say the timeline switching was confusing, but they only did it like thrice so I could follow what was happening.

Delightfully creepy and slowburn without the waffling like in most mass-made/mainstream horror, we have yet another predestined "evil shalt be born" kind of film. Only, there's no nunsploitation this time! The eerie bits come within the first few min w/out resorting to cliched jumpscares. Nerfed a star cuz despite the MC's intentions, he himself falls for the oldest trick in the book; evil children offering him 'help'. I'd have also liked more context to how the possessed came about, rather than shoehorning the heroine confessing to past church misdeeds. If it started in the city, how did evil come to a rural village?

Forget the PC/woke 2022 'Disney remake with the same name' and go for this instead. Forget also the 1-star snowflake reviews who cannot take dark, complex plotlines and likely expect typical fairytales. There's a fine line btwn sticking to the source material while changing up characters and writing to MASSIVELY improve on the story. Could feel a good impression/character development within the first 10 min. The stop motion animation took me back to the glorious 2000s era of artistically fascinating cartoons; you can feel the sincerity and passion put into this project as the movements were so lifelike. I also appreciate the Burton-esque feel/mood overall (the first 20 min!!), with the connections to grim reality of war. Looking forward to more of Guillermo del Toro!

If you're still waiting 84 years for David Fincher's Mindhunter, I suggest you head straight for this Korean version. Notwithstanding creative license, the 4 killers based on their IRL selves are frighteningly uncanny for the most part (and the book it's based on!). Love the cerebral atmosphere and the interview sessions! The main characters have an uneasy but palpable chemistry, though it took me time to like Insp. Yoon. No forced romances is a plus point. This is a K-drama that dares to be different. After this, I'm keeping my expectations uber high for any series coming next.

Where Extraordinary Attorney Woo has propelled ASD in a positive light, this show goes 2 steps backward by portraying the MC as a sociopath. The myth about ASDs lacking empathy has long been debunked! It's not a spoiler if it's in the pilot episode! Good for some disabled representation with Gi-Eun, but ohhh loooordd, she's the dumbest cop I've ever watched in books and live-action combined. Can repeat the same mistake of meeting up with an unknown guy in dodgy places TWICE, gives away her identity IMMEDIATELY when baiting the killer, doesn't call for backup, goes clubbing when she nearly DIED. Finger was the one doing the real work of handing her the app data. Plodding pace, plenty of poor decisions made overall, illogical deux ex machinas, unresolved subplots. I might have waived the ASD stereotypes since I'm not the most PC person, but combine the weaknesses above and I've wasted 8 hrs! Still beats watching cheesy Netflix Christmas films; I'd have given this 0 stars.

First off, some ppl giving negative reviews likely hadn't finished the film (eg: the guy complaining about New Age, of which I'm not a fan either) or just expect standard popcorn fare like Sonic. The anthology is a morbid, nihilistic allegory to capitalism, materialism and obsession across different generations, with The House representing all these characteristics. Act 1 plays like a slowburn horror; personally my favourite story. Act 2 might be confusing initially but it's trippy in a good way. It will take time to understand the symbolism until 2 new characters show up. Act 3 obviously foreshadows climate change with The House going under; if all the science won't convince you, maybe this one will. For those looking for a bit of hope, Act 3 will wrap the film nicely while maintaining the kookiness and light we will need after the first two acts. The OST is delightfully creepy and dark; it might be my new lofi music! Recommended if you like Tim Burton, Neil Gaiman or simply miss stop motion animation (gotta give it to the creators for all the handmade work!).

If you can ignore the present day storyline where its actors try too hard, this is a worthwhile watch. Madame Fung Lan, Ah Yoke, Inspector Mak (what a chad!) and Loh Seh carry the show. I came for a noir murder mystery/period drama and for a country that heavily censors its content, this one delivers. Ignore the snowflakes on YT who think this is glorifying prostitution; they've missed the intent of the drama.

I'm not going to be a review bomber like what they're doing on RT/IMDB. Just making honest observations. I watched this side by side with an Asian remake that just got released in my country. The REMAKE invested and injected more emotion & life into their portrayal of the OG characters, especially in the pilot episode. Here, the acting is... passable. I know Liar addresses a serious topic, but the lighting is so DARK, it makes me wonder if all of UK is always this dreary. Will take ppl's advice not to finish S2 cuz I couldn't get past S1E3. Sorry.
