I loved this book, my type of reading finding out about these brave people who up sticks and move abroad to live the rural life with a smattering of the language. It made me laugh out loud and cry quietly, the emotional ride was a joy to read, the local characters and way of life and of course the animals are so captivation I bought the next 2 books. A must read.

This is a beautifully written book, with humour, thrills and interesting facts about an era I didn't really know anything about. Whilst reading the book I took to doing some research into Queen Charlotte and Kew, so I'm now slightly better informed. An interesting time in our history and the strong women in the book are depicted with such guts in a time when women didn't have much choice in life. A real page turner I consumed it over a weekend not really wanting to put it down. It would make a fantastic mini costume drama or play.
