I hate to say it but have mixed feelings about this book. While I was so excited about this read because of the hype, it was a huge let down to me. While it has its merits, I personally find it to be overrated and most times cheesy and corny. The story has potential, it reads like a young adult novel rather than an adult. For example, the protagonist, Violet, who is supposed to be a 20 year old woman, often behaves and speaks like a 14 year old girl. She’s supposed to be intelligent and have her wits but she was so immature. Little convo between love interest from the book. He gave her the nickname violence… and he says “Going for blood today are we violence?” She corrects him and says “ My name is not violence, it’s VIOLET” its just so cringey and something a kid would say!! Most of the dialogue and plot points can come across as contrived and implausible. If the book became a movie truly based on the book it would be a C movie, not even B movie.
That being said, the book is an easy read, and it does have certain strengths. However, I don't believe it deserves the level of hype it has received, and I was surprised to find myself feeling underwhelmed. While it's a okay book, I wouldn't give it a five star rating. In my opinion, it falls short of being a truly great read.
