I first saw the original movie when I was in the 4th grade in 1974. The movie was played at my school on a Saturday morning. My teacher read the book that year and I fell in love with the magic and characters. I was hesitant to see this movie because I am not a fan of reboots and I did not enjoy the Johnny Depp version.
I saw it on Friday with my wife and son. I was surprised at how good this movie was. I loved this movie and consider it one of my favorite of the year.
I don't know how Timothée Chalamet did it but he captured the essence of Gene Wilder. Especially towards the end of the movie. I teared up a bit at the end because the emotions of the first time I saw the movie came back strong as ever.
Timothy was great as Wonka. I loved Mr. Bean as the corrupt priest. And Hugh Grant was a perfect choice as the Oompa Loompa.
I cannot wait to see a sequel to this version.
