Have you ever watched a drama that makes you want to relieve your youth again? Because I did; with When I Fly Towards You. I never expected much when I started watching it. I was pleasantly surprised by how warm it is. And then that scene happened—for the sake of not giving out spoilers, I'll coin that scene as the "scavenger scene". From then on, my perspective of this drama changed. It's no longer a drama to pass the time. It has now become a drama that has a guaranteed space in my heart. There are many remarkable moments—the doomsday scene, the beach scene, the music festival scene, the sunrise scene, and many more. Those are the moments when I feel remiscent and at the same time, regretful of my past. Did I ever experience the same? Did I savor the beauty of my youth as they did? Whether my answer is a yes or a no, I still know one thing for certain—this drama comforted me. I love the relationships in it—the familial, the platonic, and the romantic.. I love Guan Fang and his grandma. The unconditional and unwavering love they've shown for each other inspire me to do the same with my very own family. I love Su Zaizai, Jiang Jia, Zhang Lurang, Gu Ran, and Guan Fang together. At first, you would think they almost have nothing in common. When I watched episode 1, I thought to myself, "How did they end up as a friend group?" Later on, I realized genuine friendship doesn't need to have a specific interest shared to glue them together. They just are great people who are greater together. I love Jiang Jia and Gu Ran; as individuals and as a couple. Those two are gems as friends. As a couple? They are golden. How I wish we had more moments with them. I love the love between Su Zaizai and Zhang Lurang. It's everything I wanted in a relationship—gentle, secure, confident, genuine, selfless, and persevering. There are moments when I just feel overwhelmed with emotions when I watch them. Aside from the "kilig", I also feel vulnerable with their affection. If I were to love, I hope to love that way. I'd like to be a Su Zaizai whose relentless support became Zhang Lurang's confidence and strength. She's a warm ray of sunshine after a gloomy rainy night. Her light is never glaring—it's an incandescence you just want to bask in. I want a Zhang Lurang who becomes someone you just need because he really becomes that. In words, his affection for Su Zaizai may not be fully realized. In actions, It's a full-on manifestation of how deeply he feels for her. All in all, this drama is pure bliss. It's a great watch when you just want to appreciate life in its glorious form. It's a drama you just don't want to end because it gave you the relief and the comfort you deserve. ❤️
