Amazing but frustrating. Great read but points to a lot of obvious things you will allready know. At least once a chapter it will say something like
Prisoners who have countryside outside their cell window are less like to be depressed than prisoners who have a concrete wall.
Ancient tribes that have been forced out of their homes and banned from using their own language are more suicidal than those who haven’t
Animals in the wild are less depressed than animals in a zoo.
Depression can be caused by lifestyle, trauma, grievance, abuse etc and not just a chemical imbalance on your brain
Going out in nature will help depression, I mean cmon!
It’s pretty worrying that studies are needed to predict the most obvious of things and shows how disconnected we have actually become from nature. Johanna Hari is very privileged and I imagine this could be annoying also to some people. Well worth a read though.
