This is my fifth Edison Marshall book this year, having discovered his “Benjamin Blake” while searching for the “Son of Fury” film I watched as a young lad in the late 1950’s, based on Marshall’s book. I soon discovered some of his other books, which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. I highly appreciate Marshall’s well grounded portrayals of “exotic” cultures and languages, within very real historical contexts. Similar to Louis L’Amor’s prolific output, I see his formula at work, developing his characters’ romantic passion as a force driving the plot. Marshall is a master wordsmith in my opinion, in a style reminiscent of the romantic adventures of earlier centuries.
