This movie is very unique and entertaining. It was a great balance of horror, mystery, and comedy that is rarely seen in films. I loved the way it revealed the mystery using different characters' perspectives, the pacing was great and kept me in suspense. The acting was also great throughout. I loved the way it was similar to an ancient folktale, with an evil witch causing all the trouble, but took place in modern times. My only criticism of this movie is the ending. I wish all the children and Alex's parents had woken up at the end, making the ending a happy one. I feel like horror movies never have happy endings anymore, they always have to leave off on a cliffhanger. That is fine for some horror movies, but this movie deserved a happy ending with the witch defeated, in my opinion.

I enjoyed this movie a lot. The acting was quite good, and the story was well-written and actually made sense, which seems unusual for a lot of movies and books. I see that there are a lot of poor reviews for this movie, but I liked it a lot so I felt compelled to defend it lol. It wasn't very scary, but the supernatural aspect of the movie wasn't meant to be. Some people say it is predictable, and the overall story is a little (especially because the first scene of the movie takes place toward the end of the story), but the details had me guessing. I feel like so many movies have to have a surprise, nobody-saw-it-coming twist ending, but now that is so common that it itself has become predictable. I appreciate a movie with just good storytelling and details. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good drama with meaning and a moral.

This movie started out strong but ended up being awful overall. It was tense and creepy at first, but then the same imagery and jump scares were used over and over so it got boring and annoying to watch. Don't waste your time.

This was a great horror movie. It kept its tension from beginning to end, with a few good jump scares and very creepy scenes. Even though there were elements from other movies/myths, they felt like an homage and not derivative (nobody writes in a vacuum).

I wouldn't recommend this film unless you only care about cool effects. The acting and effects were very well-done, but the plot seemed thin and it got boring. After the first night the creature showed up at the apartment, you had a pretty good idea of what would happen. In the scene with the mother in the hospital, she pretty much just explains the whole plot of Ella just being a puppet in her films. It was unclear what the girl was, some kind of demon I guess? It's hard to explain but the movie seemed to think it was better than it was, and that it had a lot of depth but it really didn't.

This movie was a waste of time. The acting was terrible and made me very aware that I was watching a movie, and I didn't feel connected to any of the characters or cared what happened to them really. Also, the plot wasn't original and the villain looked silly instead of scary. The beginning and underlying theme were scary, so it had potential but turned out to be a stinker.

*Spoilers* I loved this movie. It has a simple but very effective plot. It is a modern version of H.P. Lovecraft's stories, about an indescribable, evil force (but with a happy ending).

SPOILERS This movie was "meh" and forgettable. A lot of things the characters did made no sense, the "plot twist" was obvious, and it was just a mediocre and kind of stupid movie overall. The plot was also very thin, as they didn't explain why the old woman invited people over in the first place when she wanted a quiet house. The part where "help" is written all over the walls and the brother explains it away by saying it was just kids writing on the walls while playing didn't make sense, children playing don't write "help" over and over again on the walls. Also, if the girl really did have a gift for seeing ghosts, why didn't they just start a legitimate ghost hunting or cleansing business?
