Gretel and Hansel is not an "entertaining" film, though it is certainly an interesting, mesmerizing one. I loved the archetypal symbolism and the emphasis on a feminist perspective. I loved seeing the "witch" as a multidemensional character and as a healer and a mother. I enjoyed the pagan rituals as represented by the teas and the herbs and the mysterious balm they rub on their hands in order to transfer magical qualities. As a fan of Jungian psychology, the richness of the shadow, anima, animus, etc. fascinated me. I will continue to remember gems of symbolism within this film for a long time to come.
