I have never seen a film have such an amazing concept with so much potential to work with, and have that same film fall so flat on its face or miss the mark so harshly. I feel genuinely disappointed after watching Tenet while holding onto the fact that the actors were so amazing in keeping up with this disjointed atrocity.
I am a person that picks apart and pays attention to minute details in films, and if you are a person that also does that you'll find yourself looking at the scenes and wondering what is going on and why are things happening. It's not the plot or the mission of the movie, that is clear as day. It's the constant jumping between scenes and faltering and stumbling off into different directions while weakly trying to stagger back to the main plot, and the falling when it does that'll get you. So many times I was wondering "who is this person" or "where did you come from? Are you American? Are you British? Who's your boss? What's your mission in this?" Unfortunately Nolan doesn't do anything to explain these mistakes and instead leaves it up to the audience to try and decide are they in Russia? Are they in Mumbai? Why do the action scenes look like glorified paintball fights?
All in all the actors are terrific but after walking out of the movie theatre I realised the best part of the whole experience was the popcorn.
