God's Not Dead is definitely one of the worst films I've ever seen. It is essentially a cheesy, feel-good, Christian propaganda film. Here is a list of things that the film does terribly:
1. a) Demonizes atheists. We don't need to foster more hatred for atheists. Atheists are already the most hated and distrusted group in America. I don't know if this demonization was intentional but, even so, get a hold of your biases Christians!
1. b) The Muslims and the atheists are portrayed as being very intolerant. I thought hypocrisy was a sin? You Christians could use some wisdom from your God right about now: "You hypocrite[s], first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye." First clean up the trash in your community before looking for trash among other communities.
2. The arguments are sooooooooo bad. I don't even think that you could call the 'arguments' arguments.
3. The cheesiness of this movie astounds me. If you can't see the cheesiness I'm talking about, you are completely inhuman.
4. Portrays Christians as being a persecuted group. This is one of the hypocritical things I was talking about. Think about the other.
5. Has a prideful, arrogant, and self-righteous tone. Also, there is a lot of self-pity in this film.
Things this film doesn't screw up:
1. I mean, the cinematography isn't bad, right? ... Right? ... OK, it's average.
So, to wrap this all up, I don't care if you liked this film for its feel-good value or cinematography or acting (I would definitely contend with you on that point) or whatever, movies are subjective. But I think that we should all agree that the message it preaches (that atheists and Muslims are bad, and that Christianity is being persecuted) is false and fosters fear and, as a consequence, intolerance.
