Went and watched with my family and I don’t understand why it’s getting bad reviews at all!! There’s definitely a lot of singing but it’s not like it’s some Disney musical or Hamilton. As someone with a personality disorder myself I actually relate a lot. Arthur is a broken man who came from a terrible childhood, he created an alternate identity to protect himself from difficult memories and this personality comes to light when a trigger is set off by someone or something, bringing “Joker” to light. A lot of the singing scenes are actually his episodes or “splits”, you can tell because the saturation turns up and everything seems more happy and bright, this is his way of avoiding the cold hard reality at hand. This movie beautifully captures the internal thought process of someone with a personality disorder or dissociative identity disorder. I think the reason it’s getting bad reviews is because nobody understands what it’s like to live like that. The ending was a shock but I really think it was a wonderful movie!!
