I lacks everything I loved about the original "Judge Judy" show. Byrd providing levity is one of the massive ones. This show is basically - and I mean literally - a vehicle for judge Judy Scheindlin to mock, roll her eyes at, loudly yell at and over, berate, and belittle what is us 'normals' is relatively enlightened behavior, and for the likes of her, her granddaughter, her new "bailiff", and her stenographer "woke" culture. I watched 3 or 4 episodes and couldn't bring myself to watch more.
From the outset, from the first view and description of the litigants, it's crystal clear how the case will go: judge Scheindlin will mock and laugh at them, at their words, actions, beliefs, and so on, and after every particularly barbed or self-satisfied clip or insult or "word of wisdom" she will either turn to her granddaughter or one of the other newcomers to share a (nasty) laugh, an exaggerated eye-roll or smirk, etc. They will happily share it with her, as shots of them reacting with smirks, outright laughs, etc. are sprinkled in throughout the show, in every case agreeing with judge Scheindlin, never laughing at her - as Byrd self-admittedly used to do, even though he never did it mockingly of her - but with her. Basically, the new trio are there to be her sycophants rather than sounding boards, and seeing them mock what I often thought were probably decent people actually wanting a small measure of ACTUAL JUSTICE (it being in the title of the show and all) made me sick to my stomach.
I am lucky not to have Fox News or similar channels where I live but I guess this is the feeling made people who avoid the same channels feel when they come across them.
To cut this review short: if you're looking for unironical "OK Boomer" memes made into daytime TV format, this is the show for you. If you're looking to play the OK Boomer drinking game and down a shot every time Judy (and her supporting act) proclaims an opinion you can't help going, OK Boomer, you'll have alcohol poisoning before an episode is over.
They should have just named the show 'OK Boomer Judy' and maybe get some self-awareness points for it.
I have lost all respect for judge Scheindlin after watching this spectacle of a show. If she'd come out as a Qanon devoted Trumper I probably would have had a little sympathy for her because of her sheer age, but this, to pardon the pun, trumps that.
