The ending of this movie baffled me, which is why I decided to look it up. The reviews I found however were more baffling. From "evil misandry" and "no sense to the plot" to even one critic stating Dimitri was Ana's boyfriend when he was clearly not (yet?).
The movie IS about girls and women (all the radio voices and stars) being victims of neglect, abuse, predatory behavior, rape, murder, etc.
The oven as a rabbit hole is discussed ("Is that how you did it, your car? asks Gert. 'No, I think it was an oven. And you?'.) as a cause of possible death. Or disappearance ("Be invisible" according to Marsha).
The boys/men "lured" are doing so because they can't pass up the chance to be a hero. They seem like they have passed, into death, or past a certain point of behavior in life perhaps? Even "Marsha's" husband from the opening shows up, wanting to relay his regards to his wife, though he couldn't even show love or decency to her when they came in from the rain!
No, not all men. But so many. Too many. Too many voices, stars, girls out there. Dimitri was kind. And Ana made her way back. To not disappear like the others as Luke said, but to literally find a voice on stage with the mic.
Strange movie, but the bated breath discomfort is no stranger to most women.
