While this film garnered very opposing views from the public, it's good to note that every opinion is valid. Some may have found this movie a masterpiece, but just as much would tell you otherwise.
If you're looking for a fun and cozy movie to watch, as tempting as the title may suggest, this is not for you. This is one of those movies where you have to know more about it before you actually see it. "Triangle of Sadness" is described to be a satirical dark comedy portraying the outcomes when socio-economic classes are reversed, intrinsically unearthing the distasteful relationship between beauty, power, and money.
Given its nature as a satire, it certainly does not follow the conventional manner of storytelling, so you often get confused where the story might lead you. Set in a luxurious cruise ship where only the rich and influential can afford, everyone started off a relaxing journey in calm waters. Disaster was bound to happen as a result of poor decision making and bad weather. So what was once ordinary drastically turned into an awfully exaggerated catastrophe of puke, bombs, and booze.
Despite its many plot holes and chaos of a dialogue, I'm giving an extra star for its creativity and thought provoking themes. It wasn't as much fun to watch, but it does make you think afterwards. What appealed to me the most was when someone from the lower ranks of society (Abigail), took advantage of the situation to seize power and authority. And just as some people in power resort to immoral thoughts and actions when their power is threatened, so did Abigail.
What happens to the rich and famous when the power of money and fame is taken away? In the end, we all just want to survive and live the best life we can.
