I honestly should be giving it one star instead of two, but only because of how it started out, so yes there will be spoilers. Unlike pretty much everyone else who has left reviews I’ll try keep this one short and sweet. The movie starts out with Robert Oppenheimer in the 1920’s, struggling as a student at Cambridge poisons an apple when he’s forced to clean up the room himself, he’s quickly shown not to be good in a lab, he later throws the apple away. The film shows him traveling to other colleges/universities after getting his PhD, and ends up at some university in Berkeley, CA. The entire time the movie keeps showing flashbacks and some court hearing that takes place a few years after the war, I don’t know what year, but everyone is much older. This gets more frequent as the movie goes on, like many others have said it quickly becomes nothing but dialogue with intense music. They create a city in the desert, constantly drawing out the atomic bomb, test bomb goes off, the two used in Japan are created, they get shipped out, later it’s revealed that the war is won. It should’ve ended there. It doesn’t. It continues, the movie doesn’t know WHEN to end. Literally for the next hour or so, ifs NOTHING but court room talk! Don’t be fooled by the trailer, Don’t be fooled by the music. Literally the plot is about Oppenheimer almost killing his professor with a bad apple, getting the chance to talk to some other professor he wanted to listen to, going to a few places, more dialogue, even more dialogue with almost nothing happening, a tiny clip showing a newspaper saying Hitler invading Poland, bomb goes off, patriots celebrate for like two minutes tops? And then straight back to more dialogue with nothing going on. Oppenheimer is literally one of those movies you would want to watch if there’s nothing else to watch on TV, and even then I would find something better to do.
