Speaking as someone who plays on the Xbox One, I's only a 2-3 star game. Here's why...
SUMMARY : Due to a lack of knowledge, poor tutorial system, one sided difficulty, lack of content, in game and matchmaking bugs, time it takes to find a match, and higher price tag then expected I give this game 2 stars. Albeit the sound design and graphically it is impressive, it struggles to get over the hump for me. FULL REVIEW BELOW
This game is extremely unforgiving to new players due to its poor Tutorial system and confusing as all hell maps. It took me several games to figure out how to even get out of the basement, which is also an issue because from the get go, you're tied up and bound and left hanging in the basement and the killers know that. Immediately at the start of every game, you're slowed down, and the killers know exactly where you are. Since there are 3 killers this makes it exceptionally difficult to escape and most games end up with one or two victims dead in the first 3 minutes.
Matchmaking take atrociously long. You will wait a minimum of 5 minutes to find a match unless everyone ready's up, but that never happens. God forbid one of the original 7 backs out because they didn't get to pick the player they wanted in time because that will cause the lobby to freeze and take almost another 3 minutes or so to find another Victim or Killer (family).
Mechanically the game plays well, all though I find everyone to be slow and movements like character actions to be clunky and slow. Like it takes a second to activate your perks, swing at survivors, etc. It also is in my opinion painfully slow to do some of the tasks your are required to do to survive and that gets compounded by lack of map knowledge and a poor tutorial system. The tutorial system in the game may as well not exist. They make you read a ton of stuff and don't offer good enough visual ques to explain what you are supposed to do. On top of that the tutorials are ENDLESS. There are literally 15 Tutorials for each Victim and Killer role. I read through half of them and was bored senselessly so I just had to boot up the game and proceeded to get obliterated within 3 minutes for 4 straight games...
A few times loading into a game I was trapped on the outside of the gates as a killer and completely unable to enter the play area (out past the electrified cattle guard), so my team was down to 2 killers immediately, and every survivor escaped. There was no way for me to turn off the cattle guard from the outside. This happened to me twice in 5 games as the killer.
Since I'm a previous gen gamer for now, I cant play with my friends on PC or any other consoles. I am restricted to just the previous gen group of people and only the people with my same console. This I guess is partly my issue but still, many many other games have managed to figure this out and this seems to be an over sight on a game that has been in development for a long time.
The amount of content is relatively small at the time, with only 5 Victims available, 5 Killers available, and 3 Maps. Each map can be played in different stages of the day or night which aesthetically is cool but makes it much much harder to see at night, and definitely gives the victims an edge. The maps are all just as confusing as the last and will take you FOREVER to find objectives or simply figure out where to go and what to do.
And lastly, 45$ for something with amount of content is a joke. No one should pay more than 30$ for it and honestly I think 15-20$
