The only reason I didn’t stop watching midway was because I was so desperate to watch a movie as I wait for Wakanda Forever to be released on Disney+. Here are just a FEW things that made me wish I hadn’t wasted an hour of my life watching this terribly predictable movie:
- The whole thing focuses on the poorly-written character, “Emily”. While I understand Clifford is meant to be a kids movie, the “bullying” was so over the top and unrealistic, especially as Emily lacks personality and is no different from her peers. Also, do kids in sixth grade actually post ridiculous video edits online to bully others? Emily dropping the containers wasn’t even the SLIGHTEST bit funny, and the fact that the whole class seemed to think this was hilarious makes me wince. Really, who has ever seen anything like this happen in real life?
- How many times do I have to see Asian characters portrayed as awkward “nerds” in movies/tv shows? As a Chinese person myself, I can tell you that this is not how we act at all, so maybe try to portray us as realistic human beings next time. This stereotype is far too overused, horribly represents Asians, and makes me wince every time I see it
- “Emily’s” acting and the writing for her character irritates me. If they replaced the actress and changed up the writing (a lot), my review probably could have been 2-3 stars
- Why is this movie called Clifford when, halfway through the movie, I forgot his character even existed? Less of Emily, more Clifford please
- The villain; I’ll leave it at that.
- Overall, not worth watching and too full of cliches
