I think the themes in this movie are actually pretty heavy going. The whole plastic / real world I guess is a matrixified construct to explain how the real world now is not how it was 50 tears ago. If anything this is an account of the male female stereotype in the last 50 years and what we do with it now with confused roles, sexuality changes, and social anxiety.
