I audibly signed everytime a song came on.
I'm a huge fan of musicals and enjoy movies. I hadn't watched the original Mean Girls until last week and watched the new one yesterday. So much of the original plots character and plot development was completely dismissed with low quality songs. None of which furthered the plot. There were a few of them that were decently good; however, far too many to give any of the characters anything other than a shallow personality. Kady wasn't a character you could sympathize with. Regina was a good singer; however, she was simply mean. In the original She socialized and was fake but in this one she was just mean. The whole movie was supposed to be about women empowerment, but Karen's personally was dumbed down to the point it was just silly. Even in the original they emphasized that, you didn't have to be smart at something to enjoy doing what you love. (Hence weather forcasting) The new one completely took that away from her. Gretchen and Karen only got slightly frustrated at Regina, but the movie tries to force the idea they "turned against her". The plot was completely rushed because of the meaningless songs. As someone who studied film, the shots were completely sloppy (starting from the rough beginning shot). It was clearly made my adults who wanted to incorporate social media; however, don't understand how social media actually operated. The movie kept hinting/referencing the old one, but wasn't clear if it had happened in the past or for the fans. Lastly, there wasn't any closure. There wasn't an epuloge saying "everything was well I'm Girl World" so as a viewer I assumed everything just went back to how it always was before.
I'm short, I would just recommend saving your money. It could definitely be well spent elsewhere.
