To be perfectly frank, I think all these critics have become so wrapped up in all the bad things said about the trailer to form a real opinion instead of “ew bipedal cats” which like, yeah, it’s odd, but the stage production is acclaimed by those same critics with the same idea. Granted, stage costumes were better. I understand everyone’s freaking about the character design and whatnot, but I actually enjoyed the movie. Hear me out, please. Now, I’ve loved the musical since I was about one and a half years old, so I walked in with my father as a joke, both of us expecting to hate it and then go home, watch the real one, and laugh about it. Not really what happened, we both ended up loving this rendition! Granted, the character designs were a tad freaky and the tails were weird, and I will always hate Rebel Wilson in any role that should be taken seriously, but the actors were actually great and really committed to it. I love what they did with the old songs, the choreography was very impressive, and the animation may have been clunky at times, but I really did like some stuff! Munkustrap, Skimbleshanks, Mistofelees, and Victoria were all AMAZING. Jennifer Hudson BLEW MY MIND with Memory, there isn’t even a joke to make there, it was absolutely magical. Overall, I think the critics are being a bit too harsh. I actually loved it! Overall, I’d say 9/10! :)
