The dramatic dialogue about how life's traumatic experiences can turn one into a soulless killer was unexpected in what was touted as a crime thriller. Criminals bent on self-preservation and riches don't usually engage in philosophical discussion with their victims, but this created multiple plot twists that kept me watching to the end. The fact that none of the occupants of the house were ever tied up and gagged in the basement is a tad unrealistic; however, the script Sinatra (as the bad guy intent on assasinating the president) was given made this credible. It was fascinating to see his psyche completely degrade as the sheriff lambasted him in an attempt to make him crack.
I happened upon this movie on a lark, but watched interestedly to the end. These old movies are a classic peek into another era.
