One of the 5 best books I have read. This is the story of Stalin from his birth to the October Revolution. In his twenties he was like a mafia don, but far more daring than any in 20th century America. His antics even in forced exile are incredible. Always on the run but controlling gangs that would even bump off military gold shipments. A true revolutionary and perhaps the most significant figure of the 20th century.
