I watch this movie coming from a place where I have no idea it's out there, haven't watched any trailer, and didn't know the production nor the actors. The film was good. The production isn't bad if you're not comparing it to Hollywood quality. The actors were great. It's the script though. There are moments when I thought, "wait, what? Why'd you do/say that?" but I guess the plot makes it make sense. The ending is what I find anticlimactic. It's simplistic. What's disappointing is the reviews. Boy, no one will ever make a good movie if reviews are so nitpicky.

Graphics and special effects are great. The storyline is a bit constricted. It really feels like they're trying to squeeze a lot in a short period of time (which is understandable but they could've done a bit better). If you're watching this without knowing where the movie came from, I think you'll enjoy the CGI and the fantasy elements over everything else. I'm not a fan of the comic relief because it feels out of place. The movie ends opening quite a lot of questions but as with many fantasy stories, it's up to the viewers to further tell the story. If you can bear watching the subtitled ones instead of the dubbed, you'll have a better feel of the script. The (really bad) voice acting ruined a lot of the moments for me on the English dub. As long as you don't compare this to the other same-titled movie, I think this is a good watch.

Now this is what Chinese fantasy movie is all about. I'm glad there are more and more dubbed Chinese movies. I can't stand reading and watching at the same time so this was a real treat. The fantasy elements, every detail, is extremely well-managed. The special effects is up to par with the current CGI movies, there's nothing to complain about. The story line along with the (dubbed) script is just as what I expected from Chinese drama. It's expected but well received. Some parts of the movie were a bit dragged but I'm just not a big fan of prolonging storylines of the antagonist, forcing the viewers to like him. It's a typical movie thing that I personally don't like. But they all made sense. I'd say, I'm glad I spent 2+ hours watching this movie. It's not an epic yet it took it's time, but it made me feel good at the end. And I like that.

I'm guessing everyone either know the lore or watched the other snake movies or something. But watching as a newcomer to this world, I find it fine. There are some things I didn't get like where the green snake come from and else. This movie is a lot more action-based and script comes just second. It being based on some Chinese folk lore, it's quite a fantasy. So the fantastical part is...fantastic. it's a very thrilling ride. But I think it's like a roller coaster ride. Thrilling but then I'll move on. The only people who will sick with it are those are already fans of the lore. It's the same feeling as those game-based movies where only fans of the game can truly understand the storyline. That kind of feeling. It was good but I'm moving on.
