Putting aside Crichton's debunking of Climate change (if one can, considering how focused the book is on dispelling perceived scientific myth making about Global Warming, precipitation of catastrophic events etc) This is a badly written book,with paper thin characters, with a plotline at times just ludicrous, even by the standards of airport pulp fiction. What I find most laughable is the force for good, working for some mysterious government agency and his Nepalese sidekick, enlist a Lawyer A lawyer! and two personal assistants (both beautiful and female of course) to fight it out with the baddies (eco terrorists) in Antarctica and the Solomon islands, of course there are cannibals and a crocodile. This one needs to be recycled immediately, only fit reading for Lawyers.

Manifesto has some arresting visuals and provocative quotes from a range of artistic ratbags which is great. Not so great for me is the prescence of Cate Blanchett surely one of the most overrated actors of her generation, playing multiple roles, some in bad disguise and with a range of awful american accents. i wonder why, If the director wanted American, he didn't hire an American actor. Interesting too when the film comes across as a kind of nihilist manifesto, that we have Cate the model for expensive perfume manning the barricades.
