Overall Rating: This book was thrilling, full of tension, and captivating. The ending truly propels the reader down a rabbit hole for days. I just finished reading the book and my mind is still trying to comprehend ending. Props to Colleen Hoover for reinventing her writing and making something that just convinces the reader to quite literally stop whatever they’re doing to keep on reading. Out of all of the CoHo books I’ve read, this is my favorite. It’s the one that completely embeds me in my own head just thinking about the who, what, and why. This book alone is just great for discussion as there are so many turning points and perspectives that can be picked up by the reader. Overall an amazing read that will leave the reader’s mind in knots for days on end, definitely a book that is worthy of a 10/10!
SPOILERS — Thoughts After the Book: There are so many different theories to believe after finishing this book. The opposing sides of manuscript and the letter. The three people involved: Lowen, Jeremy, and Verity. Why would Verity write about such horrid things about her own children and not about Jeremy when she was supposedly writing in an antagonist POV? As much as Verity seems to be a person of interest for many other reviews, I also want to shed light on Jeremy and Lowen. Jeremy attempted to murder Verity before meeting because he read the manuscript and believed it, however he lied to Lowen and never even mentioned anything about his failed murder attempt—however this was according to and inferred based on the letter. It is later discovered that Lowen finds the letter from Verity that “explains” the entire situation, although she decides to dispose of it. As heavy as the letter is; Lowen should have made the decision to bring the letter up to Jeremy as it was supposed to be Jeremy who discovered it. In the end, it’s hard to believe whether Jeremy and Lowen were the heroes and Verity was the villain. Were they right to kill her or did they commit a crime all for the idea that they were going to be together?
