I read the book which was a brilliant first novel and found the film was an impressive interpretation of the book's text. Bana's casting as Falk was a stroke of genius as he brings dazzling yet underplayed authenticity to the role. In fact all the casting was spot on. The Dry was superbly filmed and directed. It has a quiet sophistication to the framing and lighting of shots, many people may overlook this aspect but they would certainly notice of it wasn't there. The cinematography captures the dust and desperation superbly. I almost felt as though I needed a shower after seeing the film to wash away all the dust. The sound mix is also a very strong element of the film's overall effectiveness with cracking, brittle, dying blades of grass underfoot plunging the viewer into that unforgiving, god forsaken land. One of the elements to the film's success was that the elegiac quality of the book's text wasn't lost, and it certainly wasn't. Well done. A superb film.
