This movie was conflicting and confusing but somewhat interesting.
The characters are ok at times kind of annoying the idea of bringing a immature girl into a active war zone just screams negligence, specifically that there supposed to be professional war photographers what news/press agencies would even allow that.
The set design was lack lustered the locations are just abandoned buildings with graffiti with random burnt/blown up cars littered around. A lot of scenes didn’t make much sense with some of them being scattered shots of random places that supposedly represent a war zone but in reality look more like an average day in the Rust Belt.
The lack of homeless people and refugee camps just seem odd you would assume there would be massive fluctuations of people fleeing or camping but we only see one small camp within a abandoned stadium and a town that’s doesn’t seem to care about what’s even happening. Most of the movie just takes place in the countryside leading to repetition of point A-B with small bursts of energy.
On top of that the GCI could’ve been done better but overall ok, also the cinematography was vary amateurish but I understand why they chose that due it representing real life journalism. There was some shots that were honestly beautiful but over for the budget understandable.
The overall story is confusing, it tries to stay neutral politically but there’s clearly a underline agenda favouring the left wing socialist with small references and mentions of Antifa and Anti Fascism. It also makes the conservatives look like barbaric psychopaths killing/torturing anyone they don’t like. Also having the US military willingly kill civilians with air strikes just doesn’t make sense. Also add a president acting like a dictator who basically resembles Trump with no explanation on why.
The movie doesn’t really explain why Texas and California would even join forces let alone explain all 4 factions that alone explain what the hell happened leading to a civil war. Some factions seem to be killing each other we’ll others don’t even know who to kill. Some soldiers don’t even have identification or uniforms some are just rebels just leading to more confusion.
Specifically the guy with the red glasses we have no idea who’s side he’s one but from his intentions he definitely leaning far right with racial intentions and mass murdering, But again we do have two “assuming” gay union snipers just chilling with no intention of harming the journalist besides shooting whoever shooting them.
All this movie dose is just makes things confusing questioning what’s happening and who’s killing who specially that some of the solders they meet seem clueless on what side there fighting against. Most just seem to kill whoever regardless if there press civilian or solders. Some just committing war crimes for stupid reasons or racial profiling.
Overall a 4/10 could’ve been better but in reality if this did happen, it would be just small skirmishers between the Democrats and Republican militia groups similar to the troubles in Northern Ireland, Texas and other right wing states would most likely secede entirely with little to no massive combat intervention. Or the president would just be thrown out by the court.
