If you're a Tween or teen or a young girl you will most likely love this show, if you're an avid super hero fan like myself you will be let down to a large extent.
I feel like this show was written or directed by batwoman crew except given a kid/teenage rebellion edge.
The Dad, Pat, is emasculated by everyone except his wife. He once stood side by side for justice and wholesome values with a league of super heros but let's his own child eat pop tarts and cheetos for dinner cause the edge lord kid doesnt like fish or vegetables, not only does this make absolutely no sense at all, thats just not a good message to send the targeted audience.
The 15yr old hero doesn't listen to a single word he says in regards to reason or strategy or tactics and just gives responses like "stay outta my way" or "No, we do things my way". I mean she even gives him a new name smh. The girl who takes the mantle of wildcat (from an ex heavy weight boxing champ) can barely throw a punch and dont get me started on her footwork, I mean geez surely you can give them some better training or find an actor that actually can use proper techniques. Im sure there's plenty of girls out there that can fit the bill. After 6 episodes or so stargirl stops being more like Ava from Borderlands 3 and becomes more like Barry Allen from the Flash tv series. Unfortunately this is already half way through the series.
The baddies seem pretty good, there's a few one dimensional characters but the main antagonistics seem well cast and portrayed. The CGI is pretty decent but most tv series revolving around fantasy/heros are these days so it just sits in the middle really for that aspect.
It's not the worst Super hero show out there but it's definitely aimed at kids and more mature audiences might get tired of the teen angst pretty quick. It does get a bit better from half way through the series but it will take a determined effort to get that far 😉
