Episodes (1-4) *Spoilers. I didn't like the first 4 episodes. The plot was predictable and boring. The characters were boring and exaggerated. The writing is lazy and there is poor editing that really removes all suspense and tension from scenes that had potential. There are two scenes when for some reason an adult can't catch a running ten year old girl. First when she is kidnapped, one of the snatchers just runs straight into a tree that he could see coming from 20 feet away. Second, somehow Obi-Wan can only run like he's in a dream after Leia is the street scene. All of the inquisitors are not scary, nor relatable, and are stupid...making them not feel like an actual threat. Reva is not an interesting character because they make her so one dimensional and its not until the last two episodes that they try and redeem or expand upon her character, yet it still doesn't make sense (actress did fine, I just thought the character was poorly written). There is a laser gate blocking a checkpoint that could clearly just have been walked around. Darth Vader picks up Obi-Wan moves him around in the fire, lets him go, tells the troopers to bring him Obi-Wan, then just watches as a slow moving droid carries him away (I suppose he could have let him escape because he secretly still cares for him but there is really no indication of that in the show and the next time they fight he goes for the throat and of course as we all know eventually kills him in the first movie. SO WHY LET HIM GO?). There is a pointless episode where Leia gets kidnapped again and rescued again. The dialogue felt like it was strictly for plot progression and nobody felt like an authentic actual character and just pawns being moved around for a story.
(Episodes 5-6) These episodes redeemed the show in some capacity for me. We finally got the Vader vs. Obi-Wan fight. There was some cool actions scenes that showed just how powerful Vader is. They also attempted to expand of Reva's backstory (didn't make a lot of sense but at least they kind of tried) and didn't leave her as blatantly uninteresting as she appeared in the first 4 episodes. Obi-Wan finally seems to find himself again (which is what fans would have liked to see the entire time) in a nice scene where he finds his strength from caring for Luke and Leia in hopes to not fail them like he did Anakin. I also really like Vader's line "I see you have found your strength again, but your weakness still remains" or something similar to that. I liked the dialogue more in these final episodes and things actually felt like a threat and authentic.
The entire show still does not seem like it needed to be made. We learn almost nothing else about the world of star wars. It seemingly contradicts certain elements off cannon and overall did not seem well thought out. The prologue made it seem like Qui-gon was going to play an important part in this story, but he does not at all. I give it 2 stars because there are a few very cool and enjoyable scenes, but in a series that has 5 hours of content, that is not enough for me to consider it a good or even average show. I would rather have just watched the Vader vs. Obi-wan fight as a clip rather than have to watch 5 relatively uninteresting episodes to get there.
