Very Disappointing...for several reasons:
- it felt like a PowerPoint presentation...very SURFACE-like, hitting on the MAJOR aspects of her life in a Checklist manner…including her relationship with Bobby, her relationship with her daughter,
- appearance - Naomi Ackie looked more like Brandy than Whitney
- acting - Naomi Ackie got the breathing during songs, and some of Whitney's performance gestures correct (which was a plus), but REALLY what else qualified her?
- singing ability - the actress was able to sing a capella at the onset of the movie, in the church scene with her mother, but after that...where was her voice?
- extreme focus on her relationship with Robyn
As far as Highlights:
- the credits at the end where we actually got to see Whitney
- Stan Tucci as Clive Davis...SUPERB!
- And of course...hearing Whitney's renditions throughout the movie
Not sure of the decision-making process, pilot showing feedback, actress selection process...they couldn't find a qualified American actress, in what should have been an EPIC portrayal of an American Musical ICONIC LEGEND?
