How is Apu "racist"? He came to America, started a successful business and is an important part of his community. He loves his family and is a patriotic American. Is it somehow "offensive" to show an Asian Indian as having faults like everybody else, a bad time in their life like everybody else, doing something stupid like everybody else, in other words, behaving like everybody else? And to play the " white privilege" card is laughable. A cheap and easy misdirection.
