You know the 'left on read' expression? This is like 'left on prologue.' So many story parts left unended. This felt like the pilot to a series, but they called it a movie and hired big name actors. Whats up with the deers, the blackouts and the lack of satellites? Ok who nuked the city? What is unknown military forces? Also, why they cant use a mountain bike or other off road like vehicle to get to hospital? Ever heard of horses and post office? Why they leave the son to die? How did they know illness of the son? Why go to a distant neighbor, knowing he isnt a doctor, to get medicine from him? Then he tells you the illness must be from a microwave gun, and he just happens to have the meds for this mythical top secret gun. Yet this mythical top secret gun is so well known by the Big Pharma to create meds for it. Wait, it probably wasnt the microwave gun, and you dont know why he is vomiting blood and his teeth are falling out. You see, there is no medical personel who would know what it is. Also, you don't know what the meds are. You can only guess. So the illness felt like a superfluous mulligan.
