Bo Burnham's "Inside"..
A ridiculously talented young comedian gives us an honest 'Pink Floydian' look at the current state of humanity itself and the horrors of the internet, while peeling back all the subsequent brain issues that people in their 30s deal with now from being raised up in that older, simpler world, but currently living in the age of instantaneous information.. Forever caught somewhere in between.
Its not always 'comedy', and its definitely not Pink Floyd.. However, I think it's brilliant all on its own. A contemporary classic, usually funny but more often poignant. A lot of the music definitely sounds like Weird Al got hired as the new singer for Depeche Mode, but on that note, Weird Al taught us early on to LISTEN CLOSELY to the lyrics, and I must say this kid's lyrics are just as hilarious and absurd as they are observant and precise.
The only music-heavy movie I've ever seen that gave me the exact same feeling after it was done, was "The Wall."
We watch a wonderful mind, trapped in a vacuum with nothing but a camera, some keyboards, and a few lights, slowly but surely deteriorate into madness; all the while somehow managing to flourish and hatch these perfectly accurate 'comedic' perspectives on the world, whether we like it or not. I don't toss the word 'genius' around lightly, but I have to say that Bo really hit a lot of the checkpoints for this project. I've never seen anything like it.
I give it 101%. That's an A+.
