The series is a realistic depiction of modern day poverty and domestic violence. Perfectly looking people, driving cars and dressed normally doesn't mean life is all okay. The subtle signs of DV depicted were so real - there was no physical abuse in Alex's case nor was there violent outburst in front of others. To everyone on the outside, they would have looked normal but there was a lot of emotional abuse and threat.
The series is slow - detailing out how you end up in poverty, withe every penny counting, how the government aids are a maze. But finally there is always a ray of hope, a will to fight it out, not give up. So the last episode was wonderful.
