Audrey Crum

I view the book having various themes Marina as a young Russian girl who lives through the terrible hardships of war. She falls in love and her fiancee is sent to war.Another theme is the " how and why she memorized every piece of art that had hung in the Hermitage. How does this help her? Final theme is Marina with dementia. A big part missing for me was her life with Dametri after the war. At the end of the book we see how lovingly Dametri helps her. How did that love grow? The ending was abrupt, no closure. A major question I have is why did Marina keep so much from her children.
