Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now meets 2001: A Space Odyssey.
But pretty well done. The usual SciFi abuses of real science (i.e. what happens when a nuclear bomb explodes in space) are forgiven for raising the more intriguing question: what if the current consensus is wrong and humanity is the only intelligent life in the Universe?
