I absolutely detest the fact that I paid for this. Aside from the little memory things and the little chat room dialogue bits, nothing about your journey to unlocking the octoling as a playable character was enjoyable or even manageable to me.
To begin, the difficulty is absolutely artificial and over the top. So many stages are simply about instant death if something goes slightly awry, and others demand near perfect runs to get out at all. But since there’s always the “git gud” people out there, let me emphasize; I would have put up with this nonsense if it werent for...
The CQ Point system.
I hate this design SO MUCH. You earn them by beating stages. Sounds nice, yeah? You have to SPEND them to ENTER the stage. And spend more to retry past your measly life count. And spend more if you want to skip the stage (missing out on the point bonus and the collectible). This doesn’t benefit skilled players, this punishes casual ones. If you run out of sufficient retry funds, you get kicked to the hub and told to play a cheaper level. If you get below the cheapest, you are given 3,000 points in compensation (which isn’t anything in late game), and then get a DEBT for it?!
I really would want a refund if the unlockables weren’t charming. The actual gameplay itself is just an onslaught of trial and error hurdles that have in game paywalls to redo.
