I was at university with Janet Todd & never realised her quiet exterior housed such an explosive talent. This is a disturbing & very funny account of a fight to the death between a mother & daughter. Who is the hero (heroine?) and who the villain is never answered, but the uncannily accurate evocation of middle-class life just after WW2 provides the backdrop for a searing & cruel struggle. I couldn't put it down until the denouement - a "must -read"
