We got sucked into this in the belief that an Apple TV series would have more of a point to it.
It could have been cut down to a six-hour limited series. There are a number of scenes that were dead-ends and characters that weren't worth developing as much as they were.
If you're going to have a macho shoot-em-up plot, it shouldn't aspire to be culturally authentic or laced attempts at political sensibility. The portrayal of Columbia was slow-paced, and the attempted realism clashed with the silly idea that a couple of Americans could pretty much run amok in Columbia and Venezuela (leaving a trail of bodies behind them) out a love for a woman. And with that woman's unbelievable emotional reactions, which really broke the escapist magic.
