March first of this year marked twenty years, two months and fifteen day since the release of the Lord of The Rings: The Return of the Rings by Peter Jackson, the final delivery in what will forever stand in my estimation as one of - if not - the greatest cinematic achievement of all time. TLOTR series makes me feel sensations I will never be able to describe with words.
It also made me fear I would never live something similar with another movie release.
That is, until this movie.
That is, until Dune 2.
Dune 2 is ethereal. Ineffable. What Denis Villeneuve and this cast conjured represents that leap every art current and genre so desperately craves but very rarely receives: a magical moment, a strike of genius so fueled by passion that it would seem there were some magical forces behind, agreeing to enable it. Frank Herbert wrote the words. Denis Villeneuve directed the camera. And Paul Atreides and a whole world came to life.
Movies such as Dune 2 come by rarely. Once every two decades, in my estimation.
See it.
