I’ve been playing SOS since it was Harvest Moon, playing More Friends of Mineral Town on Game Boy Advance. I’ve gotten every single version for Nintendo DS and I’ve loved the series for years. I was so excited for this new version, and it’s been a serious let down. Especially after Trio of Towns, which I loved so, so much.
The only thing I can think of to even compliment are the graphics and the variety of pets that are available. The idea of filling the museum is fun, but the fish exhibit is just the shadows of the fish you out in, you can’t even see the variety.
The makers are a huge pain. You need so many of the same ones just to make the items you need to upgrade with. My game is super laggy on my farm because of all the makers I need just to grind out materials.
The home decorating is a huge disappointment as well. Your only given a small area to decorate, and if you put a rug in that space, you can’t put any furniture on top of it. Meanwhile, NPC’s have nicely decorated homes with dining tables/living room set ups on top of rugs and plants on their dressers.
The characters are all boring and there’s hardly any personality in any of them. The hair salon doesn’t bring in any other hairstyles than you could have chosen yourself when you made your character, so what’s the point?
I spend so much time trying to keep my farm tidy that I don’t have time for anything else, because the trees, weeds, and puddles spawn at crazy fast rate. All in all, this game was a massive let down and I’m really disappointed that I spent the money on it, as well as purchasing the add on content. They say they’re going to be adding more stuff, but I’m not sure even that will keep me playing. I’m definitely going to be a lot more wary of buying another Story of Seasons game right away after this- this game was a major let down. It makes me wish I still had my DS so I could play Trio of Towns as consolation.
Stick with Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, or even get Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town (which I bought when I saw it for the Switch and don’t regret one bit- it’s still just as good as the original IMO)
