Yaddira Vivier (Niah)

So disappointing.. this could've been something truly great! ZERO character development. You never get any insight into who Napoleon was at all. You never care about your protagonist in the least because you never find out who he is.. Dialogue was incredibly lazy and cringe. The script made a weak embarrassment out of Napoleon and never gave any insight into how he conquered so much of the world! Like they literally told Joaquin Phoenix, "Here put this Napoleon costume on and read this." Joaquin even spoke exactly as himself! His own natural voice.. Was so excited for this movie. Unfortunately, this ain't it.

So intense! The parallels to Job's story were so well written! The twists and turns had me shook! It's so amazing to see how far faith based cinema has come! As a life long movie lover, I can definitively say that even from a secular standpoint, this movie truly rivals Hollywood level big blockbuster films! Graphics and CGI were on point! So cool! And to have some true star power with Neal and Sean Astin just took it over the top! The main character has so much sincerity too. So many movies now are made without any purpose but to make money for these giant studios.. Go take your whole family to see a movie that actually means something and stands on a solid foundation! You will not regret it!

What a hell of a ride! So refreshing when a film truly captures and matches the energy of its trailer. It absolutely lives up to the hype! Great pace and format. So intriguing. Enjoyed all the different perspectives of so many people and all they had at stake. You empathize with everyone and their lives. Dano is spectacular as always. Davidson is in his natural element. The entire cast works well. The fact that the movie deals with a relatively complicated subject matter that not many people really understand, but keeps your complete interest, is a real testament to great movie making!

Glad to read through other reviews and see I am not alone. This is the second movie of Wes Anderson's that I attempt. I hear so much about him being a ground breaking visionary director, but to be completely honest, I've disliked both of his movies I've seen. Asteroid City was very slow and boring, dialogue was a strain, the performances are a pain to watch. I get that this is exactly what the director wanted, but none of this was enjoyable at all. I'm a huge movie fan too. I love indie films, foreign films, mainstream, everything. But this ain't it. If I don't even remotely care about your characters, nothing is going to save the movie. Painfully dry, no passion, no connections. At least I can say I tried... again.
